How die cutting works
Die cutting uses a custom steel-rule die — sharp blades bent into the exact outline of your design and set into a board — to cut and crease packaging in a single press. Every carton is die-cut, but custom dies also make it possible to create unique shapes, windows and structural features.
What you can create
- Custom shapes — hexagons, pillows, gable boxes and unique silhouettes.
- Windows — in any shape, open or film-covered.
- Handles — built into boxes and bags.
- Locking features — tabs and slots that need no glue or tape.
- Displays — tear-away fronts that turn cartons into shelf displays.
Reusing dies for repeat orders
Once a die is made for your design, it can be stored and reused for every repeat order, so later runs are faster and more economical. Designing several products around the same structure lets you share dies across a range.
