What is packaging prototyping?

Packaging prototyping produces physical samples so you can test the structure, size, fit, materials and appearance before committing to bulk production.

What you get

  • Understand your product, audience and brand
  • Concepts and revisions until you're happy
  • Production-ready files and dielines
  • Physical prototype before bulk
  • Seamless handover to printing and production

Why prototype before you print

A prototype is a physical sample of your packaging made before bulk production. It lets you hold the box, test the fit, open and close it, check the colours under real light and see how it photographs — catching problems while they are still cheap to fix.

Types of samples

  • Structural (white) sample — unprinted, to test size, fit and strength.
  • Printed digital sample — shows artwork and colour on the real structure.
  • Finished sample — includes premium finishes where possible, for final approval or presentations.

What to check on your prototype

  • Does the product fit snugly without forcing?
  • Do flaps, lids and closures work smoothly?
  • Is text readable and correctly placed on every panel?
  • Do colours match your brand?
  • Does it survive a gentle drop or shake test if it will be shipped?

Frequently asked questions

Why should I order a packaging prototype?
A prototype lets you check fit, structure, print and finish before bulk production, avoiding costly mistakes.
Is the prototype identical to the final product?
Structural samples match the final box shape; printed samples show artwork and colour closely. Some premium finishes may differ slightly at sample stage.
Can I use prototypes for photography or pitches?
Yes. Prototypes are often used for product photos, investor presentations and retailer pitches.
How many revisions can I make?
You can refine the prototype until the fit and appearance are right before approving bulk production.
