What is box design?
Box design combines structure and graphics to create a box that fits your product, protects it, looks great and can be produced efficiently.
What you get
- Understand your product, audience and brand
- Concepts and revisions until you're happy
- Production-ready files and dielines
- Physical prototype before bulk
- Seamless handover to printing and production
Structure and graphics, together
Box design combines two disciplines: the structure — how the box is shaped, opens, closes and protects — and the graphics printed on it. Designing them together avoids common problems such as logos falling across folds, important text hidden under flaps or a beautiful box that is too fragile to ship.
Choosing a box structure
- Tuck-end carton — economical retail packaging for light products.
- Crash-lock carton — faster packing and support for heavier items.
- Mailer box — ships on its own with a branded unboxing.
- Rigid lid & base or magnetic box — premium presentation and gifting.
- Drawer box — a slow, elegant reveal for luxury products.
Balancing look, protection and cost
The biggest cost drivers in a box are its size, the board, the number of colours, special finishes and inserts. We recommend where to invest — usually the lid or front panel and the opening moment — and where to save, such as hidden panels and internal structure.
