Understanding ply and flute
Corrugated board gets its strength from a wavy fluted layer glued between flat liners. Ply is the number of paper layers: 3-ply has one fluted layer, 5-ply has two, 7-ply has three. More plies mean more stacking and crush strength for heavier products.
Flute size changes the balance between print quality and cushioning. E-flute is thin and smooth — perfect for printed mailers. C-flute is thicker and better at absorbing shocks in transit. B-flute sits in between and suits most shipping cartons.
Which corrugated box do you need?
- Light e-commerce products — 3-ply E-flute mailer boxes with branded print.
- Everyday shipping cartons — 3-ply or 5-ply B/C-flute regular slotted cartons.
- Heavy or fragile goods — 5-ply or 7-ply boxes with partitions or inserts.
- Bulk and export — 5-ply or 7-ply master cartons sized to stack efficiently on pallets.
Sizing to cut shipping costs
Couriers often charge by volumetric weight, so every unnecessary centimetre costs money. We size corrugated boxes around your product — or your best-selling product combinations — so there is less empty space, less void fill and lower freight cost per shipment.
